Privacy Policy
Effective August 23, 2026
Book & a Note is operated by RogerTen LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy describes what we collect when you use bookandanote.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to make and deliver your gift, we don’t sell your information, and the note you write stays between you, the person you send it to, and the people who put it on the page.
What we collect
From you, the sender: your name, email address, and anything you type into the order form — the recipient’s first name, how you want to be signed, the occasion, your choice of handwriting style, and the text of your note. We save your order as you go, starting when you finish writing the note, so an interrupted order can be recovered and so we can follow up if you don’t finish.
About the recipient: the name, shipping address, and optional phone number you provide so the carrier can deliver the gift. We use recipient details only to fulfil and deliver that order — we don’t market to recipients.
Payment: payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number goes directly to Stripe and never touches our servers; we receive only confirmation of payment and the last details needed for the order. Stripe’s handling of your information is described in its own privacy policy.
If you join the list: the email address you give the weekly book recommendation signup, plus the page you signed up on and where you came from, so we know which recommendations are worth sending. That address goes on our mailing list at Loops and nowhere else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and leaving the list never affects an order.
Automatically: like most sites, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages visited, general location, device type, and — for completed orders — the order value). This relies on cookies and similar identifiers.
The AI drafting helper
If you use “Have our AI write a draft,” the details you provide (why you’re sending the book, the names involved, and the book’s title) are sent to Anthropic, our AI provider, to generate a suggested note. We don’t use your inputs to train AI models. The draft is a suggestion — the note that ships is whatever you approve.
How we use your information
To source your book, produce the inscription, package the gift, and deliver it.
To send you transactional email about your order (confirmations, updates), and — because you gave us your email during checkout — occasional recommendations of other books to send. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects your orders.
To prevent fraud, fix problems, and understand how the shop is used so we can improve it.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers it takes to run the shop: Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting), Neon (our database), Loops (email), Google (analytics and address autocomplete), Anthropic (the optional AI drafter), the people who physically write and pack your gift, and the delivery carrier. Each receives only what it needs for its job. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it with third parties for their own advertising.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, or as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger or sale — in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
Your note
The text of your note is personal correspondence. We show it to the people who produce your gift, keep it in your order record, and don’t use it for anything else — no marketing, no training, no publication. If you’d like it deleted after delivery, email us.
Retention and your choices
We keep order records for as long as we need them for bookkeeping, taxes, and customer service. You can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you — email hello@bookandanote.com and we’ll handle it. Residents of states with consumer privacy laws (such as California) may exercise their access, deletion, and correction rights the same way; we don’t sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of selling.
You can block or clear cookies in your browser; the shop works without them, though analytics will be less accurate.
Children
The shop is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it. (Books make wonderful gifts for children — the recipient’s name on a gift is provided by you, the adult sender.)
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and its effective date. Questions, requests, or concerns: hello@bookandanote.com.
